ReGoods: We are building the first truly circular economy for furniture and home goods

ReGoods was started by Wharton, MIT, and Harvard graduate students earlier this year. Since launching our pilot two months ago, we have already moved hundreds of pieces of furniture across the platform — amounting to hundreds of thousands of pounds of landfill waste averted.

What if the “lazy” choice were the best choice?

That is, the choice that’s most beneficial to our environment — and the most cost effective and convenient too…

ReGoods was born from a desire to transform the way students and young professionals approach furniture reuse. With shared frustrations from numerous relocations over the past decade, our three co-founders envisioned a platform that not only simplified the furniture shopping experience but also created a fully sustainable circular economy.

It shouldn’t be this hard to relax
Having moved a collective total of 25 times in 10 years, our team understands the hassle and inefficiency of dealing with furniture during transitions. The process of buying and selling furniture can be time-consuming, expensive — and utterly wasteful.

We saw an opportunity to redesign this process and in turn remove this waste.

University and professional communities can do better — and surely we want to do better — but it isn’t easy with the resources currently available. Most of us would feel pretty good about donating or recycling some furniture at the end of a lease, and few would shy away from great deals on higher-end pieces — but there is little structure in place to properly incentivize these behaviors and ensure smooth execution.

Our platform
ReGoods is waste-free for our community and friction-free for individual users.

With ReGoods, you can easily find pre-loved items perfect for your new home by filtering and searching by room, style, price tier, and/or color. Depending on your preferences, we have 3 delivery options that no other budget-friendly furniture stores offer:

- Flexi-Time — you choose a 3-day delivery range, and we’ll keep you posted about when your items are on the way.
- Perfectly Predictable — you choose a 2-hour window for your furniture to arrive.
- Magical Makeover — we set up everything before you even move in.

Oh, and delivery and setup are totally free when you spend over $999.

Upon delivery, if you are not happy with your furniture, either because it’s not accurately described or damaged, we will make it right by providing a full refund or offering you a free upgrade or a discounted alternative.

Our style
To create truly fundamental change, you have to start with the trendsetters.

What sets ReGoods apart from the competition is our personalized focus on these younger, fast-moving populations. We understand that students, young professionals, and those in transitional phases have unique needs when it comes to furnishing their spaces. And we know that we can help one another meet these needs on a regular basis.

Consider some other options in the furniture resale space.

AptDeco, for example, casts a general net in larger metropolitan areas, limiting its accessibility for individuals residing in smaller cities or niche populations — and it still requires sellers to individually monitor every listing. Kaiyo, on the other hand, may offer a wider selection of high-end furniture, but it does not sell fast furniture that most transient young adults prefer. Facebook Marketplace, though widely used, can be overwhelming and lacks a sustainability guarantee* — and, not to mention, it has looser regulations that cause some users to feel unsafe on the platform.

*ReGoods donates any items that for whatever reason cannot be sold.
