What is Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador (MLSA)?

MLSA is a vibrant community of Student Ambassadors belonging to different parts of the globe. It provides you with an opportunity to connect with individuals who share similar interests but come from diverse backgrounds in terms of castes, creeds, and races.

The MLSA program consists of four distinct milestones: New, Alpha, Beta, and Gold, each with their specific objectives and accompanying perks.

Objectives and Perks of MLSA

What do I need to become a part of MLSA?

There’s no such stipulation other than you need to be a part of the university, despite the fact that it may or may not have an MLSA chapter running.

What is the process to apply for MLSA?

The application process for MLSA revolves around three main categories of questions: Welcome, Connect, and Guide.

You are required to create a video for one of the three questions based on your preference, while the remaining questions are to be answered in written format. The video duration should be limited to a maximum of 2 minutes and a minimum of 1 minute and 30 seconds. Please refrain from using AI tools to write your answers, as doing so may result in disqualification.

Below, you will find the questions and corresponding responses for each category:

Welcome: We are looking for students who can provide an inclusive, accessible, and authentic environment to learn. Tell us about a specific time you welcome a new person into one of your communities. How would you use that experience to be a better Student Ambassador?

Response: I have always been dedicated to creating an inclusive, accessible, and authentic learning environment. One specific example of this was when I welcomed a new person into one of my practical projects, a developer meetup group. The new member was shy and lacked confidence in their skills. I made sure to greet them warmly and introduced them to the other group members. Throughout the session, I consistently checked in with them to ensure they felt included. I also provided extra help and resources to help them feel more at ease. As a Student Ambassador, I would draw upon this experience to foster an inclusive, accessible, and authentic environment for my peers to learn. Additionally, I would extend a warm welcome to new members, introduce them to the group, and regularly check in with them during meetings to ensure they feel included and supported, regardless of their skill level.

Connect: We are looking for students who have strong community ties and want to connect their communities to their peers. Tell us about a specific event you have planned that connected diverse audiences together. How would you use that experience to be a better Student Ambassador?

Response: As a student, I have always been passionate about building strong community ties and connecting people from diverse backgrounds. One specific event that I planned and executed during my time in college was a programming hackathon. The hackathon brought together students from different cultural backgrounds to share their programming approaches and logic, aiming to find better and optimized solutions. The event turned out to be a tremendous success, receiving positive feedback from all attendees. It effectively broke down barriers, fostered understanding, and built a sense of community among the students. As a Student Ambassador, I would leverage this experience to connect my peers to their communities and bring diverse audiences together. My goal would be to plan and execute events that foster understanding and build a strong sense of community among students. Additionally, I would use my experience to encourage my peers to actively participate in community events and activities, while connecting them with valuable resources and opportunities to establish their community ties.

Guide: We are looking for students who are driven to guide their peers in learning technical skills. Tell us about one specific technical skill you have learned, and how you were guided to learning it. How would you use that experience to be a better Student Ambassador?
