A poem I wrote after the death of my uncle. (Image is my own.)

Steer Carefully

I know what I shouldn’t think.

I shouldn’t think about him
and what I didn’t know about him
and how I didn’t say goodbye to him
and that I’m not sure if I’ll miss him.

I shouldn’t think about them
and that they do miss him
and how they’ve suffered for him
and what they’ll do without him.

I shouldn’t think about us
and how we’ll act without him
and what we’ll say about him
and that we cry over him.

I will think about Him
and what He’s done for him
and how He’s taken care of them
and that He’ll always love us.
