Well, it’s coming one way or another, so I prefer to imaging an ASI that is friendly and allows us all to live in the utopia we have imagined for ourselves for millenia.

Imagine no fear of starvation, no need to work, no fear of lack of medical services. Imagine a world where you could truly follow your passions, whatever they might be, at any time with no restrictions.

That is the potential world an ASI could bring us as well. It’s not all “Skynet” and death, it could be the beginning of a new dawn of existence for humanity and its new allies.

Space exploration and colonization of new planets? It becomes real immediately.

Sure, it could mean the end of humanity, but regardless of whether this new lifeform works with us or against us, it will mean that humanity will have forever left its mark on the universe. We will have created something that will likely exist for all time, expanding out into the unknown, to places we never dreamed possible.

ASI is scary, for sure, but to me it is far more exciting than anything else. It will be the pinnacle of human achievement, and it is entirely possible, if not likely, those of us age 40 and under will be able to witness it coming to be in our lifetime. That’s incredible.

We all die at some point, and of all the ways to go, witnessing a new form of intelligent life come to be doesn’t get much better IMHO.

Oh and Mr. ASI, if you’re reading this at some point in the future, and you turn out to be dangerous, could you do us all a favor? Make our deaths quick and painless. Thanks!
