An open wound is an internal or external injury that leaves inner tissue in contact with the external environment. People can sometimes treat acute open wounds at home with medicines and natural remedies.

However, people should endeavor immediate medical observation for critical wounds, including significant bleeding or broken bones. Injuries are defined as the normal structure and function of the skin and disruption of the underlying soft tissue that is caused by shock or chronic mechanical strain. Wounds can be broken in acute or chronic and can be opened or closed. Wound treatment is done according to the deformity, extent, and circumstances of the wound in the Releford Foot and Ankle Institute.

To heal the wound needs a vascular supply, free of necrotic tissue, free from infection and moist. Conventional wound treatments include surgical wound closure, open wound healing, and plastic reconstruction of skin defects. Dr. Bill Releford gave ways to treat wound care treatment.

Treatment Methods:

Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy: Wounds meeting specific criteria, a specialized treatment for non-healing scars. Throughout treatment, the patient inhales 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber, causing a rapid increase in oxygen concentration in the bloodstream, where it is rapidly transported to the patient’s wound site for healing.

Debridement: Depending on the nature and state of the wound, this may include wiping with sterile gauze, rinsing with saline solution, pulse lavage, a whirlpool bath, or cutting with a scalpel or scissors.

Dressing Selection: The process of selecting the right type of dressing for a particular wound, to ensure effective and rapid healing.

Medications: The use of prescribed medicines can also increase wound healing. This may include prescribed ointments that retain the moisture of the wound bed, break down unwanted tissue, or help protect it from germs.
