Give your money Dec. 1 on #GivingTuesday

From our Relevanza site:

Oh sure, you can spend your hard-earned money on Black Friday or Cyber Monday and you can give your money Dec. 1 on #GivingTuesday — and help make the world a better place.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many organizations focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

If you read our pages often you know Relevanza devotes a sizable portion of its time and energy helping nonprofits advance online and in the real world.

One of the primary organizers of #GivingTuesday in our Southwest Florida base is Birgit Pauli-Haack, co-founder of Relevanza, owner of Pauli Systems and convener of Tech4Good, Southwest Florida.

“#GivingTuesday celebrates and encourages giving, including money and volunteer time, and draws awareness to the activities and needs of non-profits,” Pauli-Haack explained. “Thirty percent of online donations to non-profit organizations are made during December. So, #GivingTuesday is an important way to bring attention to the ways individuals can support these community organizations.”

Plans for #GivingTuesday, including a list of the participating organizations in Southwest Florida are outlined on the Tech4Good site. Much of the activity will be focused online not only through the #GivingTuesday hashtag but also through the #SWFLgives hashtag.

In Western North Carolina, Relevanza’s other home, #GivingTuesday is being led by Manna Food Bank which is leaping from the global campaign to launch its own #GratefulGiving effort. Donations to Manna, which feeds the hunger and homeless all year-round, will be matched this year — up to $20,000 — by an anonymous donor.

Back in Southwest Florida the numbers for the 2014 #GivingTuesday effort were quite astonishing for a campaign developed in less than a month in 2014. The graphic shows the local initiatives with nominal 11 organizations participating, but factually only six organization followed through with announcement posts and photos.
