Traditional masculinity incorrectly genders relational capacities, empathy, care giving and emotionality as female. Young boys exhibit these same deeply human capacities but we denigrate these capacities as feminine and bully our young sons into shutting down their connection in the world. Sadly, both men and women enforce our culture of male emotional toughness. It is the denigration of the feminine and the incorrect designation of emotional capacities as inherently feminine that is driving an epidemic of life threatening loneliness for our sons and daughters alike.
