THOUGHTS AFTER THE ELECTION
WHAT CAUSED THIS HORROR & CAN WE OVERCOME IT??
DO MANY MEN FEAR, HATE, & DISTRUST WOMEN?
I was concerned about Kamala Harris before she got the nomination, as her poll numbers were lower than President Biden.
Biden was the nominee, & I felt he needed buttressing.
Republicans lied that President Biden was a failed president. He had impressive accomplishments despite relentless opposition — The American Rescue Plan, which helped us recover from Covid & avoid the economic recession caused by Trump’s botched handling of the pandemic.
The Inflation Recovery Act, that helped our economic recovery & did a lot for the environment.
The Infrastructure Act, which is rebuilding our crumbling country.
The Chips Act & many other initiatives that will bring good jobs back to America.
Many of the results of what President Biden did won’t come to fruition until Trump starts his presidency. Trump will try to take credit for the improved economy, but we know President Biden really deserves the credit.
A vice president is supposed to ride along like a spare tire & not upstage the president. She was a loyal vice president, very much in tune with Biden’s policies & the last one in the room when he made decisions.
If she had been elected & had congressional support, she could have expanded on those policies & initiated many of her own to help the people.
Sadly, that happy outcome was not to be. In my opinion, the American people made a tragic mistake.
When Kamela took the nomination, I was glad to see enthusiasm for her increase.
Kamela is intelligent, strong, & personable
She is not Trump & sane. I thought she would be a good president.
But I am a hippy-dippy New York liberal type & not representative of the country.
She may have been lacking in some ways but is a quick study & would grow.
Trump grew in the presidency — worse.
But she is the forceful, accomplished woman that weak, insecure men fear, hate & distrust.
She also drew resentment from jealous, catty women because of her brains & beauty.
She is also Black & comes from an immigrant & South Asian family
Many men & women voted against her or didn’t vote at all. She had 11 million fewer votes than Biden had in 2020. Trump won by only 1.4% of the vote. Republicans lie it was a landslide & mandate — IT WASN’T!!!
If only 750,000 of those 11 million missing voters had voted for Harris, the outcome would be different & we wouldn’t be facing this horror.
These men were White, Hispanic, & Black.
QUESTION — DID SEXISM, RACISM, & MISOGYNY PLAY A LARGE ROLE IN THE ELECTION?
DID DEMOCRATS PAY FOR ABANDONING WORKING PEOPLE?
Bernie Sanders said,” Democrats abandoned working people, & now working people abandoned them.”
Democrats get much of their funding from their own billionaire oligarchs & corporate interests, as well as well-educated elites.
Republicans made a big deal of the economy, which they lied is bad, & inflation.
Inflation is caused by Trump’s tax cuts & corporate give aways increasing the deficit & debasing the currency, as well as his screwed-up response to Covid creating supply chain problems.
But mainly, it is caused by corporate price gouging. Kamela mentioned gouging, but Democratic donors don’t like talking about this rip-off, so it was shoved to the far back burner,
Home prices & rents are being jacked up by private equity firms buying up residential real estate, but many of those firms donate to Democrats.
Meanwhile, working people are struggling with McJobs in the gig economy. They are scared, enraged, & humiliated.
Jobs are not secure or rewarding. Working people are the victims of vicious exploitation by an oligarchy that cares about its profit — not them.
People complain of the economy, inflation, & immigration, but really those are only the surface issues. The real issue is existential angst.
People are caught in a world they do not understand, with rapidly changing demographics, technology, cultural norms.
They long for a return to stability — a world they understand & where they fit in.
Men are especially affected. Birth control has liberated women. Many are getting education & positions of power.
Many men are now marginalized, no longer the chief breadwinner & head honcho of the family.
Many ditsy women also long to return to the female dependency of the imagined past
Trump conned them with hopes of a dream, of returning to a male dominated White world where they don’t have the stress of adjustment to all these rapid & sometimes hostile changes
He demagogued their fear & rage.
QUESTION — WHAT CAN DEMOCRATS DO TO GET BACK THE SUPPORT OF WORKING PEOPLE?
WHAT TO DO ABOUT THE RIGHT-WING “LYING PRESS”?
Nazis called it the Lugenpresse (lying press)
It is funded by billionaire oligarchs & growing like cancer on our body politic.
In the campaign, they lied the economy was bad, (it was good), the crime rate was rising (it was falling), Kamela was stupid (definitely not) & on & on.
The Robber Barons of the past had their railroads & steel mills, but they didn’t have much of the media to distort public opinion.
Now we have Faux Screws, NewsWacks, Sinister Radio, Musk owning Twitter twisting the algos, & all sorts of mind-warping podcasts, as well as trolls & bots, many of them Russian, on the internet.
We also have corporate media delivering subtle propaganda with false equivalency & both sidism, such as comparing Republican lies to objective truth.
Without the lying press pumping him up, Trump would be seen as the criminal buffoon he is.
QUESTION — WHAT CAN WE DO TO RESTORE OBJECTIVITY & SANITY TO OUR PUBLIC DISCOURSE, OR IS OUR REPUBLIC DOOMED?
THE POSSIBLE DECLINE & FALL OF THE AMERICAN REPUBLIC.
Scholars who study the decline & fall of empires in history say there are main issues.
— The siphoning off of resources & wealth by a small elite, causing public unrest & dissension.
— The creation of excessive public debt & debasing of the currency.
— The invasion by barbarian hordes.
— The rise of incompetent, divisive leaders who serve themselves & not the people, causing the populace to lose faith in the society
Sound familiar —
We have rampant wealth inequality, with the majority of wealth created by productivity going to the top half of 1%
Trump giving $8 trillion in tax breaks to his billionaire buddies & corporate goodies, increasing public debt & fueling massive inflation.
Morbidly wealthy billionaires who own & run corporations have been ruthlessly price gouging, sometimes directly & sometimes by deteriorating the amount or quality of merchandise, causing people to feel they are being ripped off.
Who are the barbarian hordes? It’s not immigrants. We need them to work in our economy to replace retiring baby boomers
They must be irresponsible, sinister billionaires like Musk & Theil.
As for the incompetent, divisive leader — GUESS WHO.
