Many businesses and companies have recently been forced into shifting gears and approaching work management differently. In other words, it’s been a stressful few months.

Shifting gears means that companies and businesses, at least temporarily, have transitioned to remote work.

Perhaps surprisingly, teams are finding that there are many benefits to remote work. We’ve all seen the meme: those tedious meetings actually could have just been emails.

A survey conducted by Gartner on 317 Finance leaders found that 74% plan to shift some of their employees to remote work permanently. The shift to remote work has come with its own challenges around technology and communication. But now that more workers are becoming familiar with the benefits of remote work — it’s safe to say that remote work is here to stay.

The future of many workplaces is likely to include more hybrid or even fully remote teams than we have ever seen before. In fact, as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times, alternating between office and remote work settings might be necessary.

Find the right technology

The pandemic has seen a huge surge in people using software platforms like Slack, Google Hangouts, Trello, and many others. Zoom, for instance, has recorded more than 300 million daily users. This is a huge jump from just 10 million users back in December.

Thriving in a remote or semi-remote work environment requires you to find technology tools that are best suited for your company and employees.

Below are some of Remotely’s favorite tools:

  • Slack
  • GoToMeeting
  • Jira
  • Trello
  • Grammarly
  • Google Drive
  • Buffer

Discover the art of communication

Good communication is the key to thriving as a remote company. It can also be the most challenging part of transitioning to a remote work model. Where you previously had office space and in-person meetings, remote work is a whole other ball game. Many newly remote companies have struggled with keeping employees and colleagues in the loop and on track with their workloads.

The key to addressing this is creating a virtual office and scheduling meetings where necessary. Slack is a great platform to keep all staff members in communication with each other. GoToMeeting or Zoom are great for arranging meetings.

Master your routine

The lines between work and non-work become a lot more blurry when you work from home. This means that burnout is a real risk.

The best way to avoid burnout is to find a routine that works for you. This could mean scheduling hours of uninterrupted work at specific times, setting daily work goals, or creating a physical space dedicated solely for work in the house.

Keep clients and employees happy

The key to keeping both clients and employees happy depends on your company having remote work systems in place that work for everyone. Once you’ve found the right technology for your business, have effective communication methods in place, and know that your routine is conducive to maximum productivity — you’re good to go!

But you may find that you or your team are still struggling with technology, communication, or productivity. If this is the case, get in touch with a Remotely team member.
