This text reveals 5digital habits that have become integrated into our everyday lives, together with a brief description of their implications and the technologies that support them.

  1. Social Media Consumption

What it is: The term “social media consumption” refers to the use of platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok for different purposes, such as keeping in touch with friends and family, following news and being entertained or making professional connections.

What devices are used: Smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers and smartwatches that run social media applications or allow access to websites through browsers.

2. Online Shopping

What it is: Online shopping is the concept of purchasing goods and services through the use of e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Walmart or specialised online shops. These platforms offer a wide range of products from clothing to electronics, from groceries to furniture.

What it uses: Various electronic devices such as computers, smartphones, tablets and wearable devices, which are equipped with payment methods such as credit cards, debit cards, mobile wallets or bank transfers, simplify online shopping. In addition, delivery services offer the possibility to receive products directly at home, without any complications.

3. Video Streaming

What it is: The term “streaming video” refers to the possibility of watching films, TV programmes, documentaries and short videos via on-demand viewing services such as YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch and others. This form of content enjoyment also allows users to create their own videos.

Why they are useful: Fast Internet connections allow quick access to a wide range of visual content via computers, smartphones, tablets, game consoles, smart TVs or dedicated streaming devices.

4. Instant Messaging & Voice Calls

What it is: Instant messaging and voice calls allow instant communication between individuals or groups using various applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Skype and Zoom, for both personal and professional conversations.

What it uses: What enables interaction between users are internet connections and devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktops and smart home assistants that allow communication through text, voice and images.

5. Health Monitoring & Fitness Tracking

What it is: Health monitoring and fitness tracking refer to keeping track of one’s physical well-being through the use of wearable devices or mobile apps that record biometric data, exercise habits, sleep quality and food intake.

What the functions are: Wristbands, smartwatches, fitness trackers or specific health monitoring devices collect user data that is subsequently synchronised with applications installed on devices such as smartphones, tablets or computers. This allows further analysis of the information and provides feedback to the user.
