With pitchers and catchers reporting to MLB spring training, the NASCAR season moving into top gear at Daytona, and calendars full of festivals and concert tours, spring fever is running rampant.

In the weather world, this coincides with a shift in the weather threats to these outdoor activities. Meteorological Spring begins on March 1, and the WeatherOps Forecast team is shifting its focus from blizzards to thunderstorms and has spent the event off-season preparing for 2017’s busy schedule.

Entering WDT’s 5th season for providing weather support to the outdoor event industry, Dax Cochran, WDT’s Outdoor Event Solutions Expert, shares his excitement on the new tools coming and improvements WeatherOps continues to make.

“From the start, our goal was to work with the industry to evolve a weather solution to help ensure safe, yet successful shows for fans across the world. Coming into 2017, we are excited to continue with that focus in multiple areas: from concert venues, artist tours, athletics, and festivals. Our products continue to evolve to ensure each customer is well-informed prior-to and during the event.”

Andrew Thut, WDT’s Weather Solution Expert for Sports and Outdoor Events, discusses the importance of having a weather plan in place for outdoor events:

As both a Meteorologist and an Outdoor Event Consultant, keeping people safe is a top priority. You see headlines in the news all the time about lightning injuries and fatalities. Having a hand in preventing a nightmare like with advanced forecasting and alerting tools is pretty special. I always enjoy helping our customers ensure they have a weather plan in place.

Chris Kerr, WDT’s Director of WeatherOps Forecasters, has been helping our customers directly for numerous years. He knows his role is critical to ensuring hundreds to thousands of fans are safe at their events.

It is really exciting to have a hand in making sure the fans of our customers’ events are safe. Giving them clear and concise weather information that helps them make critical decisions regarding an outdoor event is a top priority for our team. Also, knowing that this information may save lives of event attendees and/or increase their enjoyment of the event is one of the best parts of my job.

Now is a great time to learn about WeatherOps services from WDT. We are offering a free webinar on March 16. Learn more and sign up here: http://info.wdtinc.com/new-webinar-reduce-your-weather-risk-exposure-this-spring
