I Love Lucy is a 50’s American television sitcom that aired around 1951 to 1957. It is regarded as one of the all time true classic of American sitcom. It centers around the daily life of a silly and lovable redhead, Lucy Ricardo — played by the iconic and popular television comedian Lucille Ball, as she somehow gets herself in wacky scenarios.

The main cast of I Love Lucy

I first encountered this series, if I recall, back in elementary or junior high school. At the time I haven’t surfed the internet as much as I do now, and would only watch videos I saw in my Youtube timeline. And I guess — I really am trying very hard to remember —I stumbled upon some I love Lucy clips on my timeline. I watched it, it was very funny and entertaining, and so I got curious.

Young me, who at the time had zero information on how you could stream full episodes of TV series besides searching up on Youtube “[Series name episode 1 season 1 full episode]” began typing out the words “I Love Lucy Episode 1 Season 1” on the Youtube search bar.

It was just pure stroke of luck that somehow, someone had uploaded every single 180 episodes of the I Love Lucy show. Of course I binge-watched it, and as the title suggests, I loved it very much.

It’s literally just a slice of life type show around Lucy, Ricky Ricardo as Lucy’s husband — played by Desi Arnaz (on and off husband of Lucille Ball at the time of the show), Fred — played by William Frawley and Ethel — played by Vivian Vance. But because it’s Lucy’s life, it’s never normal. She just gets herself into the craziest stuff, you’ll find yourself shaking your head and laughing your ass off to her zany antics. And you find yourself rooting for whatever it is she was planning to do in each episode. She’s just that lovable!

It does have some jaded quality to it, of course it was the 50’s. There were some ideologies that are very outdated, for example, the idea that a man hates their wife as a joke portrayed in the characters of Ethel and Fred, Lucy and Ricky’s besties slash landlords. But I mean, it was the 50’s ^^;;. And it wasn’t that uncomfortable that it would turn off the whole experience of watching the show (in my opinion).

Also, the chemistry between the main cast are just phenomenal!! The dialogue and acting just seem so raw and real (and really funny). Besides the incredibly funny show, the cast really does grow on you. You can really see how the characters truly love each other at moments and it really warms your heart seeing them together. You get to have fun with them as you watch them have fun, as if you’re also part of the cast.

It’s a really nice show, you can watch to get a feel of America and American entertainment back in the 50’s while grinning the whole episode and get a few chuckle here and there. A simple watch for a simple day you’d want to spend relaxing and stuff.

I guess it’s also part of the nostalgia I feel, but it always warms my heart whenever I remember I Love Lucy again and decide to watch a few clips, chuckling over whatever it was on the screen.

I give I Love Lucy a solid 10/10
