Asia Pacific Driving the Global Renewable Energy Boom

The global clean or renewable energy sector reached record high growth last year with US$ 329 billion of new investments. The Asia Pacific region is at the heart of this boom with investments of almost US$ 180 million last year, being more than half of the global total. China topped the countries in clean energy projects with an investment of US$ 110.5 billion, followed by the US, Japan, the UK and India. Of the various types of renewable energy sources, wind and solar are the key sources driving the global renewable energy investments. Together, the two sectors attracted investments of US$ 270 billion last year which was 80% more than the total of US$ 329 billion. These sectors also accounted for half of all new power generation capacity installed last year, contributing 120 GW of new energy projects.
