“It’s Okay Not to Be Okay”( 2020)series review

A Netflix series

Hey readers

Title : It’s okay not to be okay

Genre:Romance comedy

Composer: Nam Hye-seung

Created by: Studio Dragon (planning)

Production companies: Story TV; Gold Medalist

Admittedly, I’m not typically a series enthusiast, but "It’s Okay Not to Be Okay" has managed to secure its place as the second series on my watchlist. As someone who deeply intrigued by narratives exploring mental health, this show immediately captured my attention.

Delving into the series, we find two brothers navigating life separately following the loss of their mother. The hero's elder brother is an autism patient, while the hero himself works as a psychiatric hospital nurse.

Adding another layer to the narrative, the actress in the story is a children’s book writer. The plot artfully revolves around these three characters, exploring their individual journeys of inner healing from past traumas and how they become pillars of support for each other. The conclusion is a happy one, but it comes with a fair warning: keep a box of tissues handy, as your eyes are likely to well up with tears.

One standout aspect for me was the portrayal of the actress. Her performance was nothing short of fantastic, with scenes that were not only beautiful but also deeply emotional. Surprisingly, this series managed to do what countless films couldn’t – it brought tears to my eyes. The resilience and toughness of the actress’s character left me in awe.

The depth of character development in the main lead is commendable. Every plot presents its characters with challenges, but this male lead, in particular, undergoes a myriad of struggles. Witnessing his journey, you’ll find yourself reflecting on your own life and realizing that you may have more than you think. The series truly excels in crafting a character with profound layers, earning a well-deserved applause.

Acting as the elder brother, portraying an autism patient, is undoubtedly a challenging role. Yet, the actor navigates it with remarkable skill, delivering a truly amazing performance.

The supporting cast also deserves applause. The side characters inject elements of fun, comedy, love, anger, and jealousy into the plot, creating a dynamic and engaging narrative. The portrayal of the hero’s friend’s one-sided love adds a charming touch to the storyline.

The depiction of love throughout the series is a noteworthy highlight. It’s not just about loving someone; the series skillfully explores the nuances of expressing that love and vocalizing its importance. These moments are beautifully captured on film.

With 16 episodes, this Korean series is available on Netflix for those interested in watching. In conclusion, "It’s Okay Not to Be Okay" delivers a powerful, soulful message – no matter how you feel, expressing your emotions is not only okay but essential for personal growth and healing.
