A total of 721 pencils were awarded during D&AD Judging 2018

This year in London’s trendy Brick Lane the 2018 D&AD festival wrapped up in true style, it was a pleasure not only to judge the Experiential category but also meet and connect with a fabulous group of global judges. I wanted to take a moment to look back at the entries and the winners in this category, as well as some stand out experiences from the festival as a whole, all of which should be on your radar.

No Conditions Apply — Sindoor…

I never imagined one trip would change my life… but a recent experience in Israel with #BeyondReality and The Schusterman Foundation did just that. The journey challenged my perceptions, opened my eyes, broke down barriers and exposed deep emotions hidden inside, that would trigger a series of events that have, changed my world.

Curiosity conquered fear

I’ve always been a little skeptical of things that sound too good to be true and this trip was no different, at first. It wasn’t until multiple people kept recommending the experience, that part of me actually became more and more curious. …

Today is International Women’s Day and it led me to think a little deeper about what #BeBoldForChange actually means and the important role women play in each others career and development. International Women’s Day is a global day (March 8) celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The World Economic Forum predicts the gender gap won’t close entirely until 2186. …

Virtual reality (VR) has become the latest land grab in the world of content creation, with rivals under bidding each other like never before in an attempt to get experience and creds under their belts. Such competition can, of course, be incredibly healthy — it’s always good to keep an industry on its toes. But this ruthless under bidding can be dangerously counterproductive because it risks resulting in poor quality content that ultimately puts consumers off this bold new medium.

It’s still early days for VR; it has not gone mainstream. We’re still in the brick phone era and haven’t yet arrived at the smart phone stage.

March 28, 2016. This is the date Oculus Rift’s long-awaited and much-anticipated consumer headset became available to the world. The day marks a seminal point on the virtual reality (VR) timeline. So seminal, it got me wondering where we’ll be in ten years time.

To look forward, it helps to first look back. All the way back to the 1990s: Nintendo launched its debut hand-held game device. Cern announced it won’t charge for its new mass communication service (aka the web). Adobe Photoshop 1.0 was released (no sunset photo will ever be the same again). …

Fantastic Beast Virtual Reality experience launched on Google’s Daydream Platform inviting fans into J.K.Rowling’s wizarding world.

A Creative Revolution is taking shape driven by the still-emerging medium of virtual reality it’s setting the stage for never-before-seen kinds of creativity that is pushing storytelling forward in ways we never imagined. The sheer amount of problem solving, rule breaking, determination and inventiveness the VR creative and production process demands is fundamentally reshaping the way creatives, developers, producers and technologists work together, are you ready to go beyond the frame?

VR demands new ways of workings

Virtual reality has been a gift to artists and creatives who have been experimenting with it. Old ways of thinking bring the same old results, but when you are…
