Whew — how it just never seems to end. Seems to me there ought to be a way to make being a racist just as dangerous as they make it for any, and every person of color — and I do mean outrightly dangerous. It has happened, once in a while. Do you know the story of how, when a black doctor moved into a house just on the edge of a white neighborhood, and was threatened — physically as well as verbally? A large contingent of the black population rallied to him, barricaded his house, and came armed the night more violence was ‘promised’. They routed the racists, and ran them off, many wounded in the process, and the police were baffled. Nothing like that had ever happened before, but it was obvious it had been nothing more than self-defense. Everything quieted down, but the Dr. realized where he really wanted to live — among the people who had supported him. He sold the somewhat damaged house, and moved to a different neighborhood.

But the stories are endless. By the way, have you seen the film, Hidden Figures, or read the book from which it was made? It’s a remarkable work that makes the inclusion of black female mathematicians in the war effort (WWII), and how they subsequently became part of NASA’s team for the moon landing project, infuriating, inspiring, humorous and sad, all at once, and by turns. The film is available from N’flix, and the book from alibris.com — worth every nickel, and minute you can give it, if you haven’t already.
