3 Ways To Keep A Positive Attitude in Negative Situations

Sometimes no matter how hard you try, things just don’t seem to go your way.
Maybe it was your fault, or maybe it was something that was completely out of your hands. And in the end, you were the person that had to deal with it.
Trust me, I feel where you’re coming from.
In this post, we’re going over a couple of things to keep in mind when it seems like life is really handing out the short end of the stick.
1. Remember That You Can Control Your Response
You may not be able to control what happens but you can definitely control how you respond to the situation.
I don’t know if you believe in God or not, but I do believe that if there is a God or some other Higher Being that exists, he gave us humans the ability to think and the ability to control your actions.
If a situation occurs and your initial reaction is potentially negative, learn how to control that response.
If you feel like you’re going to say something that you’re going to regret, hold your tongue.
If you think you’re going to do something that’s going to harm yourself or another person, take a deep breath and realize that whatever act you’re going to perform isn’t going to be worth it in the long run.
2. Always Have a Positive Outlook
When in a negative environment or in a negative situation, it’s very easy to adopt a negative outlook.
And prolonged exposure to negative can be detrimental on multiple levels: mentally, spiritually, physically, emotoionally, etc.
Always strive to look at the bright side of things.
There’s a term that people in the NLP community called re-framing. In layman’s term, you’re pretty much adopting a different perspective, usually a more empowering one.
This could mean the difference between being a creator of circumstance vs. being a creature of circumstances.
I personally believe that we’re responsible for each and everything that happens to us to some degree.
By adopting this viewpoint, it allows me to feel in control and take the necessary steps to improve any situation that I am not happy with, or at the very least, look at the situation differently.
This may not feel natural at first, but over time it will become more natural to look at the bright side of things.
Remembers, things could always be worst. So learn to appreciate what you have.
3. Learn From The Encounter
Life, if nothing else, is a series of learning experiences.
Some lessons are easier to learn than others.
But I feel that the greatest lessons come from the experiences that made the biggest impact on us, and these experiences can be either positive or negative.
Jim Rohn once said that we must become a student of life. The more we draw from our experiences, the more wisdom we attain.
We then apply the wisdom that we attain to make better choices.
Final Thoughts
In life, you gotta learn to take the good with the bad. Everything isn’t going to go your way 100% of the time.
There are countless variables that we couldn’t possibly keep track of.
Knowing and understanding that will make life that much easier.
So when it seems like nothing is going your way, pause for a minute, take a deep breathe, and realize that these things happen.
Don’t make the mistake of taking things so seriously. Laugh through the frustration and confusion and keep going.
As long as your objective is clear, you’ll get to where you want to go.
