DAVE RUBIN IS THE NEW HERALD OF THE LIBERTARIAN DYSTOPIA

Dave Rubin was on Joe Rogan’s podcast a couple weeks ago and was saying the stereotypical libertarian talking points that couldn’t hold up to even preliminary scrutiny by Joe Rogan. Joe Rogan who is as open minded as anybody immediately realized that what Dave Rubin was preaching was utter nonsense. I’m not sure even Dave Rubin totally believes the words coming out of his mouth. So let’s just break down some of the most ludicrous claims Dave Rubin has made so far…
- The recent Supreme Court decision to uphold a baker’s right to religious discrimination is okay because government.
You can’t be selective of discrimination. It’s either legalize all discrimination or ban all discrimination.Civilized societies have banned discrimination in all cases. Discrimination based on race is the same as discrimination based on gender or sex or religion. The baker said that he will sell an already made cake to the couple but he cannot prepare a cake knowing it’s for a gay wedding which is just bullshit to me. And saying: “we’ve moved on” so we don’t need laws against discrimination is such a naive white person thing to say. And lastly, these are the same people who get mad when we exclude white people from stuff. This idea of “freedom of association” (read: freedom of exclusion) will start to make less sense when half the country is not white and chooses to give them a taste of their own medicine. I’d rather accept shitty govt than accept shitty discrimination.
2. Rubin tried to claim the age old neoliberalism Ayn Randian Milton Friedman free market fundamentalist nonsense that you don’t need government regulation and the free market will magically solve all of the problems on its own.
The problem with that is that how many people will suffer and die in that process? We know that Shell and Exxon-Mobil knew about climate change for decades and did nothing. We know that Big Pharma has gotten everyone addicted to prescription pills for profit and the market hasn’t solved that and even if it has its far too little too late. Rubin claims that smartphones and social media will solve everything via word of mouth which is totally unrealistic and naive and Joe Rogan pushes back on that. We know that corporations like Monsanto still sell people bad products like Round Up. We know that Talcum powder causes cervical cancer but its still on the shelves. We already know that bacon is killing us but we still purchase and consume it. The market doesn’t have an incentive to be benevolent; just to make the cheapest product possible for the maximum amount of profit. If we left it up to the market they would sell us poison and tell us it’s good for us and by the time we figure out it’s not, thousands and possibly millions will be dead.
3. Rubin asserts that the Left is more racist than the Right i.e. racist towards white people.
So the Left is more racist to whites than the Right is racist towards people of color? Who honestly believes this in the year 2018? And Rubin literally says that it’s just a “sliver of racism on the Right”. So the Republican Party doesn’t have race issues? So the “Unite The Right” hate rally in Charlottesville was just a sliver of the right? So the Trump administration is not racist? So Fox News isn’t racist? What about Ann Coulter? What about people at CPAC like Frank Gaffney? The truth is there’s plenty of xenophobia and bigotry on the right. The Right today openly hates homosexuals and immigrants and Muslims and Dave Rubin is just in denial.
4. Then Dave Rubin was at Oxford simply because he’s popular now not because of his ideas that are repeated by everyone on the Right ad nauseum and articulated better by smarter people than Dave Rubin.
He claims in front of Oxford students that systemic racism is not real because there are no laws in the United States that explicitly single out any group. This is not anyone’s definition of systemic racism. Rubin is basically trying to say that if there is no system of blatant apartheid that systemic racism does not exist. The laws don’t have to say “blah blah blah…except black people”; the constitution of the United States never explicitly excluded Mexicans, African Americans or Native Americans but it was implied that it didn’t apply to them until the second half of the 19th century and beyond. It’s about how the law is applied not about the literal verbatim of the laws. Once again, Dave Rubin has got to be pretending to be dumb here.
5. Rubin tries to do this quintessential American thing where he just keeps saying the word “government” in a pejorative way.
Much like how Ron Paul always says “liberty” to get people to turn off their brains. This type of tactic only works in the American context. The government is not an alien Reptilian force beamed down from the sky ruling over us. We elect the people in government. If our government sucks then it’s probably because our democracy sucks (and we suck). And places where their democracy doesn’t suck they don’t care about the government controlling certain things because they control the government. The government is not some shadowy cabal like Dave Rubin and Alex Jones like to have people believe. Most of the people who blindly bash government either: a. believe a conspiracy theory about something the government is doing that is not real or b. don’t pay attention to half the things the government is actually doing and have no real idea about how government works. Dave Rubin’s interview with Joe Rogan puts all of this on perfect display. Rubin seems to be wholly ignorant on the economy and government and democracy and just pontificates elementary textbook libertarian talking points with only a superficial level of understanding of the concepts he’s discussing. Even for libertarians Dave Rubin is useless. He does the Ron Paul thing where he just preaches to the choir or says vacuous platitudes to appeal to young impressionable minds. He himself sounds young and impressionable like he just got out of high school and into college and started smoking copious amounts of cannabis watching Ron Paul interviews on YouTube. He fails to convert Joe Rogan to the fundamentalist religion of the free market because Joe Rogan is a grown ass man with common sense and has his own mind. Most of the time Libertarians are able to convert people by using the art of debate and persuasion and finesse but Dave Rubin lacks all of that. He just isn’t convincing at all.
6. Libertarians are fundamentally detached from the rest of the world.
Dave Rubin claims that builders will make things up to a high standard because they want to build the best things and immediately Joe Rogan says: “That’s not true”. Gordon Ramsey’s show where he goes into restaurants and whips them into shape proves that restaurant owners will not just “do the right thing” because it’s in their business interest. That’s why there are inspectors and restaurants get graded on how sanitary they are. The same is true with buildings. I think it was just last year that a building in India collapsed killing dozens of people or the Grenfeld Tower in Britain that burned down or Trump Tower that was on fire not that long ago. Joe Rogan even says that we don’t want schools to collapse on children but Dave Rubin is either divorced from reality or hasn’t thought that far at all. Then Rubin gives the classic libertarian answer: “they cut corners anyway with regulation”. Libertarians always assert that even with regulation there are issues so we don’t need regulation but in fact like Joe Rogan says the issues would be even worse without regulation. Typical right libertarian logic is that people break the rules so we shouldn’t have rules. Yes, the EPA exists but there is still too much pollution but no EPA would create such an unbearable amount of pollution that people would have to cover their noses and mouths when they step outside because smog like in India and China. That’s the problem with Libertarians they say things as if we don’t already have the receipts and examples around the world and in the United States. It’s like saying “socialism doesn’t work” when every developed nation on Earth has socialism and we have yet to see a developed country with no socialism. They don’t analyze anything in real world terms just theoretical nonsense.
7. Rubin says besides the President’s tweets everything is still fine more or less.
That’s because you’re a rich white guy and none of what Trump does will affect you. Trump is here precisely to protect wealthy white male capitalist property owners from the broke masses. Trump’s whole administration is a bottomless pit of corruption. Trump has implemented a genocidal policy in Palestine by cutting off funding to the UN group that keeps Palestinian refugees barely above water. Trump has increased drone strikes by 400%. Trump’s attorney general Jeff Sessions is even going after medical marijuana. Trump sadistically started separating children from their families at the border and putting them in concentration camps. The list goes on and on but Dave Rubin probably doesn’t know or really care about any of this stuff because he’s not paid to care.
8. Dave Rubin apparently doesn’t know what “reactionary” means with his tweet about reactionary being the new word for the Alt-Right. Reactionary has been a word in political discourse for decades and basically people who overreact to modernity and end up endorsing extreme solutions.
Dave Rubin is just a political prostitute hired by rich sociopathic right wingers to repackage and peddle “classical liberalism” and Trojan horse free market fundamentalism by talking about the same 5 topics with the same old people with the same old tired talking points: “The left is too radical”, “free speech is under attack”, “Berkley”, “Venezuela”, “Antifa”, etc. He focuses on straw manning the Left by going on and on and on about issues not representative of most people who call themselves liberals and ignores that most people who call themselves “conservatives” today have moved to the Far Right. And for a “classical liberal” he enables the Right that pushes war on drugs, never ending war, corporate rule, militarization of police, illegal wiretapping, torture, buiding a unnecessary wall, banning religious groups, and cracking down on civil liberties. If he was even a real “classical liberals” like Benjamin Franklin or Thomas Jefferson would have nothing to do with Milo Yiannopolous and Ben Shapiro and the rest of the tribal agitators and bad actors.
