Metaverse Massacre — A Walk Through

Metaverse Massacre is a strategy based game inspired by the game theories: prisoner’s dilemma (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner%27s_dilemma) and The Trolley Dilemma (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolley_problem).

A staking-like mechanism along with in-game burning power player choices and direct the outcome of the game. Overall, Metaverse Massacre is easy to learn but difficult to master.

The game begins with each player receiving an NFT clock. Clocks will vary in time, ranging from 60 hours up to 108 hours. When the game begins, all clocks begin counting down. Once a player’s clock hits zero, that player dies and their game ends. The last player remaining is declared the winner.

During the game, players have three core choices to make. Each choice comes with its own reward and its own risk.

Hide — A player can enter one of 5 hiding spaces. Each hiding spot will pause their countdown clock for a set period of time. Once in a hiding spot, a player cannot leave until a specified period of time passes. An ETH bounty accrues in the hiding spot while the player remains hidden. At the end of that hiding time, the player will immediately exit the hiding spot, their clock will resume counting down, AND they may not hide again until a specified cooldown period has elapsed. While hiding, players are also at risk of being murdered should a killer be created in the lab (See Visit the Lab).

Reward — Countdown clock will pause for a specified period of time depending on the spot. Either 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours, or 6 hours

Risk 1 — Once exited from the hiding spot, a player must wait for a cooldown period to pass before hiding again. Either 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, 8 hours, or 12 hours.

Risk 2- Player can be murdered, which immediately ends their game.

Remain on the streets (not Hide) — A player can simply remain on the streets and choose no action. They cannot be murdered but their clock will continue to countdown. The player can also Visit the Lab.

Reward — Player cannot be murdered and also has the option to Visit the Lab

Risk — Clock continues to count down towards zero

Visit the Lab — A player not hiding can visit Dr. Kevorko’s lab. Upon entering, a player will see an option to Start Experiment with the odds the experiment will be successful. A player can still exit the lab after entering but once they start an experiment, it cannot be stopped. The experiment has two possible outcomes: success and failure. Failure will equal death and the player’s game ending. Success will grant them a new role as a Metaverse Murderer. The Lab will temporarily close once a Murderer is minted. The player than has up to two hours to select a hiding spot and murder all the player NFTs in that hiding spot, collecting ETH while doing so and ending the other players’ game. The killer can see who and how many players are in each hiding spot and what the ETH bounty will be for each hiding spot.

Reward — Successful experiment that creates a murderer. Note — the murderer only has two hours to select a spot

Risk — Experiment fails and player’s game ends.

Once a hiding place has suffered a massacre at the hands of a murderer, it will be closed for the rest of the game. As the game progresses and more murderers are created in the lab, players will be forced to cram into fewer and fewer hiding places. Up to five murderers can be created, so it is possible by the end of the game there are no hiding spots left for players.

The challenge for players is to fight the right balance of hiding along with remaining on the streets so they have the flexibility of visiting the lab when the probability of minting a murderer is high. That probability is directly correlated with the number of people hiding and how long they’ve been hiding.

TLDR above: the greater the number of people hiding, the higher the probability of minting a murderer.

Do you hide right away?

Do you go to the emptiest hiding spot, knowing it may fill up with other players following the same strategy and you can’t leave until your time is up?

Do you wait and see if a lot of other player’s hide then hit the Lab shortly before the majority of them get kicked out of their hiding spots?

Do you form an alliance? That also means you might have to massacre a spot worth less ETH to keep an ally alive.

Do you visit the Lab when the odds are lower for fear someone else will swoop in and hit the jackpot before you do?

If you have more than one NFT clock in the game, do you immediately try an experiment with a second NFT if the first fails?

Do you focus on becoming a killer? Or being the last NFT standing? Or try for both if you have more than one NFT?

What will your strategy be?
