Rose gold is becoming synonymous to luxury, as we’re seeing this rich, feminine shade in almost all articles of jewelry. From rings to bracelets, this soft, romantic hue is giving women’s favorite accessories a fun, bolder treatment that isn’t fading away anytime soon as some trends would. Why? It’s because it’s different, eye-catching, and elevates one’s style to something that’s cool yet chic.

Watches, too, have been catching the rose gold bug for some time now, and show no sign of retreating. Audemars Piguet, however, isn’t all about just following the trend. The luxury watch brand thought of raising the bar a bit higher by giving the rose gold watch a shiny, shimmering, splendid treatment.

The Obsession with Rose Gold Watches

The fashion world has been credited for making the rose gold’s presence stronger than usual, but unknown to many, it’s the horological world that started the trend. It was said to be put back in vogue by European watch manufacturers about nine years ago. There is no surprise there, as innovation almost always defines the greatness of today’s luxury timepiece brands.

The choice of color isn’t surprising, either. Wearing something that comes from the rose family lets one evoke warmth or compassion, and even composure. It is short of saying that when one wears rose gold on her wrist, she expresses not only style but incredible poise as well.

No wonder the fashion-forward lot has been without the trendy rose gold watch. AP’s iconic watch model, the Royal Oak, has led the pack with its AP Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Grande Complication. It’s luxury redefined with its beautiful 18k bracelet with a pink gold hue that’s anything but ordinary. Luminous easily comes to mind when one takes a closer look at this breathtaking masterpiece, thanks to the glowing coat on its Arabic numerals and rose gold hands. Truly, this timepiece is the perfect fusion of femininity and luxury in one stunningly beautiful package.

But the AP Royal Oak gold range didn’t stop there. The beloved watch model continued to reinvent itself to see how far the rose gold watch can be taken. To say that the result wasn’t lacking on the sparkles is definitely an understatement.

Elevating the stylish rose gold with a frosted hue

While originally marketed as a men’s sports watch, the design elements surrounding the AP Royal Oak intelligently incorporate flexibility into the formula that makes it easier to create new versions. One of its incarnations was the ladies’ Royal Oak released in 1976. The feminine version of the AP Royal Oak classic circa 1972 was designed by Jacqueline Dimier.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ladies’ Royal Oak, AP introduced the frosted gold range in 2016, which was made in collaboration with Carolina Bucci, a jewellery designer based in Florence, Italy. Coming up with a frosted gold finish for the iconic watch line marks a new milestone in the history of the luxury watch manufacturer.

The frosted gold range of the Royal Oak aimed to deviate from the current rose gold trend by creating something that’s more than just a trend: women’s love for things that shimmer. The watch was treated with a gold hammering technique popularly known as the Florentine technique to enable the texture to sparkle like diamonds.

The ladies’ Royal Oak frosted gold is, as mentioned, a range. It doesn’t come only in the favourite rose gold hue but also in white gold. Offering the timepiece in two frosted shades has not only attracted women to whom they were made for but also men who love the sparkle of an iconic piece. In an interview with Revolution Watch during the SIHH 2017 in January, AP CEO François-Henry Bennahmias related that a man approached him during the ladies’ Royal Oak frosted gold launch at the SIHH 2016 and expressed an interest to own one.

FRANÇOIS-HENRY BENNAHMIAS

Bennahmias explained why the Royal Oak frosted gold range captures the attention of men, too. While the watch looks ordinary in dull light, it transforms into a whole new timepiece altogether when under bright light. The reflection bounces off from the frosted case, giving it that glistening appeal that will captivate just about anyone.

Beautiful, unique, and with the perfect kind of shine that takes anyone’s style to the next level, the ladies’ Royal Oak frosted gold is just what the fashionable crowd needs to create an impact that lasts.
