Senior QA Engineer on the path to Cybersecurity
So, a few years back, I was living the good QA engineer life. Then, “Life Happened”! The company I worked for got hacked. Talk about a wake-up call. My boss had to hire a team of cybersecurity experts to root out the cause of the hack. It was my first time working closely with them. Seeing the whole thing go down flipped a switch in my brain — cybersecurity, that’s got to be fascinating!
Fueled by newfound interest (and maybe a dash of revenge?), I jumped into learning penetration testing. But let’s be real, I went in way too hot. No plan, No direction, just a whole lot of “What am I even doing?” Eventually, I got burned out and hit a wall. So I abandoned it and allowed my interest to fizzle out.
Fast forward to April 2024. I’m scrolling through Coursera, and guess what pops up? A Google Cybersecurity Certification course with awesome reviews. Sign me up! This felt like the universe nudging me back on track. Truth be told, cybersecurity wasn’t even on my radar before this, but this course rebooted my interest.
Next day, I enrolled, ready to tackle this new challenge. The instructors encouraged doing your own research, so that’s exactly what I’m doing. Plus, I found some cool cybersecurity pros on YouTube and TikTok who are answering all my questions (no shame in the learning game!).
This page is basically a journal of my adventures as a QA engineer diving headfirst into the world of cybersecurity. Stay tuned for the (hopefully) epic journey!
