A lot of it got to do with where you live.
Singapore lies at the goldilocks zone for me being an Indonesian that can’t stand the stupidity of my own country but still can’t get too far from it.
The city state island is great for someone that wants to focus on work and is at an exciting moment in their career. SG presents a huge opportunity without sacrificing on good quality of living. It’s modern, have all the first world amenities with world class quality, but still very.. very close to nature (and yes, artificial forest is still better than burning one that you have).
Yes it’s not cheap, but again it depends on how you live. A lot of things and entertainment here is free. You can just walk around, go to the parks, because purchasing anything became optional, not mandatory. And if you manage to land a job here, money shouldn’t be an issue. Tax is drop dead low, and you actually can see where it goes to.
Diversity still need to be fought for, but certainly people here are not as judgemental. I never had any questions about “agamamu apa?”
The feeling of security, knowing how safe things are, and even if anything goes wrong you know where to report and someone will actually give a damn about it, is new to me, and refreshing.
If it weren’t because i miss my family, Audi, and my friends back home, i honestly don’t have any excuse to get out of the island for a vacation.
Thank you for being such an amazing host for these 2 years. A place to call home, away from home. Happy 52nd birthday, Singapore. #majulahsingapura
