Tulsa, Oklahoma’s ‘Black Wall Street’

On June 1, 1921, one of the most (still to to this day) affluent All-black communities was burned to the ground not only killing some 3,000 African Americans, but also destroying 600 businesses, 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores, 2 movie theaters, 6 private airplanes, 1 hospital, a bank, and an entire school system all that the African American’s in this community had made from the ground up and kept in the community.
