The States Rights argument can easily be seen through by simply asking yourself, would any Southern state had seceded if slavery had not existed? What other possible reason would there have been? Would there have been anything even remotely like the regional identity divide without it and the political economy and culture built around it? The multi-generational motivated reasoning it has taken for right wing white folk to think of themselves as ethical people, while profiting from slavery, jim crow, and segregation, North and South, is the root of the ease with which Americans go post-truth and wallow in self-serving BS.

Whats so interesting about that Texas secession clause is that I have heard white folks make every one of those points except the last clause of the last sentence, and I'm from CT. When you hear people say that white identity, or white nationalism isn't the same as white supremacy, they are only lying to themselves.
