‘What’s Day Job?’

This question is lodged in my noggin every waking moment of my day. Every drive to and from work. Every cup of coffee down my gullet. Every pepperoni flavored vape cloud. Every n00b pwnd.

I ponder this question because what could be more relevant than the way many hard working Americans spend almost 25% of their week.

To reach an answer I must understand what it is ‘to be’. Is ‘to be’ nothing more than to think? Is is only meaningful ‘to be’ when the other option is ‘not to be’? I refuse both options!

Being is nothing less than a random set of complications that produce a detailed tapestry of meaningful coincidences. That’s it.

Tell me a story!

The common thread for all of us are the joys and pains found in life.

Having a child. Losing custody. Caring for aging parents. Brief glimpses of true peace. We are artisans, watching others engorge themselves on our delightful strudels and bear claws. Like confectioners, as much joy as gained in making as tasting.

To make what is from what isn’t and for it to be good; that is what it is to be human.

And then it happened upon me what Day Job is: it just is.

like, what is it bro?

Our Job

Our goal is a certainty and our passion genuine: we must explore the condition of modern man and entertain him whilst doing so.

Day Job, our flagship game, is a choose-your-own-adventure book, sans choice. A humble storytelling engine disguised as a casual clicker game. Think of Day Job as the Mom & Pop doughnut shop you pride yourself in referring friends to. A wide variety of treats emerge but who knows what drama lurks behind that smiling facade.

Our goal at Rabbit Hole Games is to create a way to honor this fascination with storytelling, not by creating another digital soapbox, but by honoring an ancestral kind of theater.

Your Job

You assume the role of a randomly generated character who has their whole life ahead of them, assuming employment is the birth and termination the new… well, you get it.

You will experience life events, known as narratives. Whether you diligently toil away or sneakily slide by, at the end of the day life goes on. And you get paid. In Day Job Dollars ($DJD).

In an attempt to maintain realism, taxes are automatically deducted from your character at the end of each work day. The daily tax rate is 50%.

Day Job

Head to the office and begin your day. A day lasts thirty seconds but somehow feels longer.

Once started, you must tap when a green circle is highlighted to get work done. This costs energy.

If a red circle is highlighted when you tap it, you slack off and gain some energy. Slacking may also cause you to get reprimanded which raises your stress.

Being stressed makes working harder.

At the end of each work day an interesting life event may or may not happen.

Narratives are selected based on your character’s personality and history. A characters personality may be affected by both narratives and items.

Items in the Day Job Store are purchased with $DJD and may affect your personality and resources. There is one premium item which completely refreshes resources.

Feedback

Day Job is meant to be by people, for people, and about people. We need feedback from you, dear human, that we may improve our little game!

To find out if we have a solid foundation we need your help! Help us out by sending us your feedback.
