Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

Our sports community’s togetherness has made its way to social media…

“Teamwork makes the dream work.” (h/t @RJStadium) We have no idea who can rightfully claim credit for this quote and after some brief internet research, we now understand that it serves as the impressive title for both a leadership book and a rap song. One thing is for sure, we definitely agree with its premise. Together, the sum of parts work better together to reach a common goal than they do individually on their own.

As an organization honored to help market our (incredible) destination, we have a goal to be the best in the industry when it comes to maximizing our community’s ability to leverage social media for our clients and their respective events. When people think of sports in Tampa Bay, we want to them to think of a community that is strategic and innovative in connecting local and visiting sports fans through social media in ways that have never been done before. We admit it’s a lofty ambition and one that’s extremely difficult to quantify.

It’s with this thought in mind that we recently realized our social goal was quickly transitioning from improbable to impossible. Plain and simple, we were falling short of our target because we weren’t helping engage our team(Tampa Bay)mates. We decided there was no better starting point than to convene the local cross section of sports and social media (#smsports) by inviting our community’s sports teams/organization’s digital and social departments to an informal meet and greet…a “social” social, if you will.

We were thrilled to play the role of helping connect faces with twitter handles. 30 of the best and brightest minds in sports marketing got out from behind their devices to meet in person. As a result, our favorite takeaway from the event (which we weren’t anticipating prior) was the advent of… #TeamTampaBay.

Meet #TeamTampaBay: our sports community. While #TeamTampaBay may be made up of different teams, each participating in their own individual sports and leagues, we all boast the same genuine passion for our hometown. Whether it’s friendly banter or garnering votes for an award, our community’s teams are now finding ways to collaborate together online as #TeamTampaBay and we couldn’t be more excited. The launch of #TeamTampaBay has given our sports community a new means of demonstrating how our “teamwork can make the dream work”…
