Note: the version of FreshSheets discussed and linked to below is for the 23–24 season, and includes projections that are out of date. FreshSheets 8.0 for the 24–25 season is expected to be released in early-to-mid September.

Customize Scott Cullen’s 23–24 fantasy hockey projections for YOUR league’s settings!

FAQ

I’m new here: what’s FreshSheets?

Hey, welcome! FreshSheets is a free Google Sheets-based tool that allows you to plug in your league’s settings — Points or Categories league, # of teams, roster settings, and the point value of each scoring category or which categories count in your head to head matchup — and creates a custom draft list just for you.

Fantasy hockey is different from a lot of other fantasy sports in that there’s a wide variety of scoring systems and league setups, and the individual value of a single player can vary wildly from league to league. FreshSheets lets even the most casual fantasy hockey manager draft a competitive team.

Where did the projections come from?

Scott Cullen has long been one of the most consistent and trusted sources of fantasy hockey projections — in fact, he’s the reason I built FreshSheets in the first place. You can read a little more about his projection model here.

What are some features?

Easier, Faster, Better, Stronger — I’ve been working on FreshSheets since 2017, and it had grown bulky, with a lot of unnecessary and irrelevant code that was just kind of hanging around, and some features that had started to get away from the core purpose of the tool. With Version 7 I started with a blank sheet, and have rebuilt the entire tool from the ground up. It’s way, way faster, far less buggy, and rebuilt in a way that will be much easier to develop going forward.

Rankings sheet for Points Leagues

Auction Draft Values — Automatically calculates the auction value of each player according to your league’s scoring to better help you bid on players during your draft. It can also accommodate keepers and keeper prices, so that you can make value-driven decisions during the fast-moving auction draft.

Multi-Position Eligibility Support — Choose from Yahoo, ESPN, Fantrax or Cullen’s positions with support for multi-position eligibility that better projects player value for your specific league. (This was far and away the most requested feature last year). I’ve also included support for leagues that use C-W-D-G or F-D-G setups

New Best Available sheet for in-draft

Salary Cap League Support — All players now have their AAV included, and I’ve introduced a VALU column, which ranks players by their VORP/AAV.

Streamlined In-Draft Functionality — if you’d like to use FreshSheets while you are actually drafting, I’ve streamlined the process. Now, instead of searching for and clicking the “Pick” tick boxes on the Rankings sheet, you can simply type in each pick as they happen on the Draft sheet. This will feed through the rest of the sheet, and the Best Available will update as you go.

UX Improvements — Formatting and usability updates, plus a brand new color scheme.

How do I customize this for my league?

If you haven’t made your own copy yet, make sure you’re signed into your Google account. Click the button on the League Info page that says “Get Your Copy”, and click Accept to save it to your Google Docs folder. You can also go File — Make a Copy to save it to your Google Docs.

Once you have created your own copy, start to follow the steps laid out in the Quick Start Guide and you’re good to go!

You may see an option to download for Excel under File — Download but this tool will flat out not work in Excel, since a bunch of the key formulas don’t transfer properly. This also is far more stable on desktop, and can crash if you attempt to use it on mobile.

I highly recommend using the Google Docs version.

Please, for the love of McDavid, don’t hit that REQUEST EDIT ACCESS button.
