This year marks the 10 year anniversary of Jules Bianchi’s horrible crash at the Japanese Grand Prix in 2014. This incident altered the racing world and is still spoken about to this day. It is considered one of the worst tragedies in Formula 1 history.

Jules was an incredible driver who achieved many things during his racing career. He started karting at the age of 5, then followed along to Formula Renault 2.0 claiming five wins and becoming champion. He transitioned to Formula 3 racing with ART Euro Series. He came third in the Euro series and won the Masters of Formula 3. Jules also then competed in the GP2 series and was able to take two pole positions. Driving for Tech 1 racing team in Formula Renault 3.5, Jules ended up placing second in the title race.

Jules career was very successful and in 2009, he tested for Ferrari in Spain along with other drivers over a few days. His performance was absolute steller, which was why he afterwards got chosen to become Ferrari’s first Academy Driver. In 2010, he became Ferarri’s test and reserve driver for the 2011 season. During that season, Jules tested at the Fiorna Circuit, and finished 70 laps with the fastest lap time. Ferrari boosted Jule’s career and showcased his talent for driving. In 2013, he amazingly debuted for Formula 1 with Marussia and continued with them to 2014.

Jules career may have been cut short, but it is evident that he was an great young talent who if things were different, would’ve been able to accomplish so much more. He left a huge impact and his absence is still felt to this day. Max Verstappen, who at the time drove for Torro Rosso stated “Today we have lost an amazing talent and person” continuing with Romain Grosjean adding “we lost one of the best guys and best drivers I’ve ever met”. It is clear that Jules was loved and adored by everyone in motorsport and how much the world was shaken up by his death. Jenson Button describes him as“ a truly great guy” and “a real fighter” aswell as Robert Fernley who was then Force India’s deputy team principal told the British Newspaper Observer that “Jules was always smiling and was an absolute delight to have on the team”.

In honour of Jules, Charles Leclerc, his Godson, is racing this week with a new helmet design contributing to Jules and his memory. He took to his Instagram today and posted stating “A special helmet in memory of a very special person for me. ❤️ 10 years this year since we have lost Jules here in Japan. So many memories together that I’ll never ever forget. I miss you and I’ll do everything to bring that helmet on the top step of the podium on Sunday. 🤍”. Jules was a massive part of Charles’ karting days, assisting him and in general a close friend. Back in 2018, Charles said “I will try to do everything I possibly can to win the titles that he deserved to win”.

Jules Bianchi meant a great deal to a lot of people. He was a loving son, brother, godfather and a friend. It is clear that he would’ve been a great star in the sport and really woul’dve been able to take his driving to the next level. People will remember Jules as a kind driver and one with outstanding talent. Despite his absence, Jules will always be remembered and honoured. He will forever be missed and never forgotten.
