Interaction Design, what is that?

Well, the first post won’t be that cool tutorial, because first of all, we need to understand a little bit about the concept behind a website and all the process that is necessary to have an interface ready for the users, and our first topic will be Interaction Design.

One really cool thing that exist in human-computer interaction is Interaction Design, that name sounds cool and professional, but what exactly is it?!

To understand the real concept, we need to clarify what an interface is.

An interface is simply the point of connection between the system and its users. Every action that the user wants to perform in the system or in the web page will be in the interface, and the interface will give deliver the action to the system and vice-versa.

Now that we know what an interface is, things will be easier to understand.

When I say Interaction Design, I mean

designing interactive products to support the way people communicate and interact in their everyday and working lives. (Sharp, Rogers and Preece, 2011, p. 9).

In other words, it is the study about how users interact with an interface and how to enhance this interaction with the users to improve the users’ needs.

Now that we know that is Interaction Design and its purpose, we need to know its goals.

Interaction Design pursue to create products that are easy to learn how to use, easy to remember how to use, efective to use and provide an enjoyable experience for the users.

And the most important thing, Interaction Design involves the user in the process to develop best design that will fit in what the user needs.

Here is the basic definition for Interaction Design, hope you guys like it, and if you have any doubts, please drop a comment bellow. In the next post, we will talk about User Experience.
