A GAME OF HISTORY: What Comes Next
If there is anything that strikes the viewer or reader about Game of Thrones, it is the great similarities between our medieval age and theirs. More importantly, their timeline may be slower, but it progresses just like human history.
So, after every question is asked, the last one would be?
What comes next for the story? Exploration and Technological Advancement. A Renaissance for Westeros and Essos on a large scale.
Westeros is in a period of large scale war. Why this is perfect for a new age of humanity in their world is post-war development. I expect for the large scale rebuilding after a War for the Dawn to be the first push.
As summer comes back, war will be gone, and the lords having to fear their people. Governments like a Parliamentary Monarchy will arise from the rubble due to peace. Medical advancement will pop all over the world and better weapons will be crafted. The first warships will be created, along with the first frigates. This means exploration. As far as the people of Westeros know, they are as west as west can go. No one has gone farther south than a land called Sothoyros and the sea between Westeros and Essos on the west has never been successfully traveled. New ships will mean a lust for a better route to Essos and the Yi Ti, a Chinese-like civilization on the Eastern part of Essos. We will probably see a Columbus or Magellan type explorer come about. With some Iron Island’s captains claiming they have sailed from the west coast of Westeros to Asshai, we can expect history to play out just like ours. Tales will be told of brave men traveling to a new land, and the tales will die. Then, rich nations will send explorers out, and there will not be tales but history.
My reasoning behind this thought is the the sheer amount of open land in the southern part of the Thrones world left unexplored and unexplained. And with magic coming back to the world with the Rhilor priests and wargs like Bran Stark or face-changers like Arya Stark, we may see extreme progress in technology.
Magic is something unknown to everyday peasants and even the elite in Game of Thrones. It has not yet been studied to the point of being used practically in everyday action, preferably not for assassination.
