It was especially significant after reading Five Days. Funny how really darkly bad and inadequate parents teach us to adopt an opposite and loving model of parenting.

My relief came with my parents passing. I had never let my son spend a minute alone with them. Knowing the abuses I endured, my son refused to go to my mother’s funeral. I respected his decision.
