My name is Richard Bagdonas. I have been in the healthcare industry for seventeen years and the hospitality industry for over a decade. Twenty years ago I founded a non-profit food delivery network called Operation Turkey which fed 15% of the US homeless population last year. My background in logistics, hospitality, and healthcare culminate in this article.

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic combined with third-party restaurant delivery apps has created a huge problem for food safety within the restaurant industry. …

And as I stood there in the kitchen listening to some music from the Steve Miller Band the song “Fly Like An Eagle” came on. I put away two tall glasses.

I washed off some forks.

I wondered if I should put all of the forks into one cube in the cutlery caddie or if I should spread them out into other cubes just in case two touch and melt some cheese on the belly of the “big spoon” fork to become a single, hulk-like mega-fork. …

September 7th of this year was the day I sold my car, a Porsche Panamera SE Hybrid. It was an amazing car. I started out getting over 800 miles per tank of gas. This year my per-tank mileage shot up to over 1,000 miles. This meant that I was filling my gas tank about once a quarter.

The reason was the Porsche was a hybrid, getting plugged in each time I parked it in the garage. That stored energy helped the first eleven to fifteen miles to be all electric. This was my first hybrid and it was crazy fast.

Last week I called the dealership to check in on this beast because it had a recall and a couple fault codes showing when they asked me to bring it in. The fault codes dealt with the electric system. …

This summer I had the pleasure to vacation with my family and friends in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. That trip inevitably saved my life.

It was on our trip where I ate some Mexican papaya containing a small protozoa named “cyclospora cayetanensis.” This protozoa later caused some serious intestinal discomfort when I returned to the states. I called my doctor who referred my to a gastroenterologist.

September 4, 2018

I saw a gastroenterologist at Austin Gastroenterology who performed a colonoscopy to rule out various issues. The initial feedback from the gastro was everything was clean with no polyps or other signs of colon cancer. The issues I was having were short-lived and he recommended more fiber in my diet. He did say he found some minor inflammation and had taken a few biopsies to double check it with the lab. …

Yesterday was the day. The Boring Company #notaflamethrower arrived. It was nicely packaged with a check for $5 to cover the cost of the propane tank.

They were unable to send propane because of the shipping, but I really think it is to prevent someone from hooking it up and burning down their house.

I picked up a canister of propane, hooked it up, and let her rip. Holy cow this throws a big #notaflame! And before you say “wait! you shouldn’t do that inside!” you are right. I don’t recommend doing it indoors, but with our very large great room, and after checking the specs, I took the shot below from the safest place indoors.

Now my #notaflamethrower is going to be mounted on my wall and I go attend to my pants which need changing.

A healthcare company started by President George W. Bush’s cousin Jonathan Bush has the tagline “More Disruption Please” for their program designed to help foster the building of innovative ways for the healthcare industry to operate effectively.

The Disruptors

Disruption is obviously caused by disruptors and most of the time it is looked as positive in the startup world. Disruptors are those individuals who look at someone taking advantage of a confusion of facts and they in turn do something that causes pain for others in that industry, leading to something different. …

Statements like “we have always done it this way” can be heard nationwide after each mass murder in the United States. This is the common party line for members of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

But it is time for us to look at something different. We have the power to legislate and modify how we govern ourselves and it is about time we did.

There are over 310 million guns in the United States and just over 320 million people. …

Today was the day I had been waiting for all year. The alarm on my phone was set for 6:50 am however I woke up at 6:15 because I was too excited and didn’t want to miss it.

The alarm started ringing and I had the pleasure to go in and wake my son Alec.

After a few moments Alec opened his eyes and made his way out of bed. We quickly put on his new pants, shirt, and socks. Hurrah for socks! …

A year ago an Austin-based venture capital firm offered my company $400,000 for 40 percent of its equity. Their counterpart in the Bay Area offered $2 million for 20 percent of the same company — just one week prior.

My belief was Austin’s fundraising problems were due to the age of the funds at Austin’s venture capital firms and the limited number of Austin investors who could invest $500,000.

It is now a year later but has anything really changed?

The decline in local investments has mirrored national activity, which decreased 23 percent from fourth quarter of 2015 to the first quarter of 2016. US funding dropped 18% from the second quarter to the third quarter of 2016 for venture-backed companies. Seed and Series A funding fell to a 5-quarter low with seed-stage deals greatly falling as a percentage of total deals (from 34% in Q3 of 2015 to 26% of Q3 of 2016). …
