I appreciate the sentiment behind saying that reality is “leftist.” But stating the obvious does not provide a road map for anyone who might be interested in how we get from the miserable state of affairs we live with in (globalization, Trump, climate change, species extinction) to the “leftist” world. I am increasingly convinced that the direction we need to go in is neither left, nor right, nor some fusion of “capitalism” and “socialism.” Instead, we should be looking at reorganizing the world around “communing,” looking at the world as a nested set of “commons.” The best book I have read recently is Massimo De Angelis’ :Omnia Sunt Communia: On the Commons and the Transformation to Postcapitalism.” There’s a website that pulls together many thinkers on the topic: onthecommons.org.
