Long ago, in a universe far, far away, I was an early employee at a supercomputer start-up.

I have to be honest, Smalltalk doesn’t have a great ecosystem. The Smalltalk market is rather fragmented. But Pharo is our best chance to “unite” the market. They’re doing really good work to improve the language and the environment. If it gains a large enough community, then I expect the ecosystem to improve quickly. That’s why I advocated for Smalltalk last year.

Having said that, I should point out that Smalltalk is still immensely useful, as evidenced by the many business users around the globe. Of course, Smalltalk will be even more useful with a powerful ecosystem, but that takes time to grow.

I agree about Python. It’s great for statistics. I wouldn’t use R.
