Since Smalltalk has lambdas (first-class functions and closures), it can most assuredly teach you functional programming, too. In Smalltalk, lambdas are known as “blocks.”
While FP purists will insist that data immutability is necessary, in Smalltalk (and any language, for that matter) you can choose immutability by convention.
