Nest made the original announcement in February and didn’t get much attention. I suspect that if it weren’t for the anti-Nest sentiment that’s been building after recent activities and reveals, this would have gone largely unnoticed.

I tend to think Nest’s best move here would be a switft mea-culpa and reversal—stop any active support but leave the services on for the customers that remain. And offer incentives for them to migrate to alternative Nest or Google products as they become available.
