It seems to me that the genesis of the violence in Charlottesville occurred the moment Mayor Singer ordered the police to stand down thereby not only encouraging violence, but insuring it. That he knew this is evidenced by the fact that the city tried to have the rally moved to prevent violence but waited until far too late to ask. Given this it is amazing that he gave the order that was akin to the signing of the death warrant of the woman who was killed. If the police are on the job, keeping people apart as in Boston and other cities last weekend that woman is alive today. Maybe the mayor would not have his issue although that should not be of any importance when it comes to the taking of a life, but the Mayor chose. I am a bit disturbed everyone is making it so easy for him to live with that vile choice. Can it be that all on the political left agree with it? That is something I would rather not believe although the silence is deafening.
Has anyone asked him why he did this? That is a simple and one would think an obvious question, perhaps the first to be asked, yet I have heard no one pose it to him. Could it be that the Mayor being an activist, left wing democrat wanted violence to further his agenda? Based on his lobbying now for the authority to supersede the Constitution by allowing localities to deny the basic, inalienable rights contained in it on a whim it certainly seems the good Mayor is somewhat overly ambitious. His type usually are.
The Mayors actions are predictably those of a would-be tyrant, first create violence, whip it into a crisis and then propose easy solutions to prevent recurrences in the future. How trite and recognizable to any student of history. It is the basic blueprint for all despots and it is as simple minded as the good mayor is calculating and those in the media seem to be by pretending they do not see this connection nor have they asked why he did what he did. They seem far more a Fifth Column of Quislings than they do a Fourth Estate keeping a watchful, unbiased eye on government, yet that is obvious as well.
This much is clear, somewhere, no doubt in perdition, someone is smiling at the Mayors actions, nodding approvingly. My hope is that they get to greet him one day, in person in that place he has seemingly bought a ticket to. I hope their self-commiseration is a long one.
