It is what I have been saying for twenty years. Unfortunately the curriculum is defined by archaic university demands based on inflexible departmental organisation. It is no longer necessary to be able to commit to memory countless facts of little use. That is what a computer is for. Far better to be able to find and use information in solving problems and in facilitating creative thought.
Teachers and educationist should forget teaching and become facilitators, helping students find and correlate their research. This leads to real learning and possibly genius.
I did this for my students over twenty years ago. Their response and performance was impressive. Some of them are now 50 years of age but they still remember that experience with enthusiasm.
