There’s No Such Thing As A Protest Vote

I don’t understand what you mean by “The third theory of change from protest voting is the obvious one: outright victory. This has never happened.” A quick look at past presidents’ affiliations will yield 6 different parties: Federalist, Democratic-Republican, Democrat, Whig, Republican, and National Union. How are there this many changes between elected parties without a new option? I would appreciate some clarification.
