I find it interesting that you refer to a positive view as “scraps”. The funny thing is, most of the trans depictions I’ve seen over the years have been positive, with the exception being a stand by joke of a guy getting a trans hooker by mistake or someone setting them up with one as a joke.
The earliest trans depiction I can remember is an episode of the Jefferson’s where an old army buddy of George’s comes to visit after completing their transition. The actress was an attractive woman. I have no idea of how to go about checking, but it’s possible it was a trans woman playing the part. Why does it matter?
Thing is, trans people come in many flavors.
Some more feminine, some more masculine. Some attractive, some not. One would think that the most important point you should care about is the plot which portrays them in a way that furthers your cause. This requires the people that write the best script and performs best on screen.
We have actors playing villains and saints without being either.
You have gay man playing the part. If they declared themselves trans, with no intent of getting an operation, would you still be objecting?
