I think one of the reasons the blues/fusion/swing dance scene has increased in popularity is that it allows for the platonic touch. It has become far more acceptable for men to dance with men without it being assumed there is some kind of sexual relationship going on. Women have always had this option, especially back in the days when “follows” were exclusively women and “leads” were in short supply.

And, unlike most social dance scenes, those scene concentrate on people having a good time as opposed to being dressed a certain way and conforming to a particular style. In other words, no one cares if you look good, just if you are enjoying yourself and not interfering with the enjoyment of others.

I’m fortunate that my father taught me the value of a good hug. He considers it one of his more important lessons.
