SilverBird Cinema Website: a UX case study
Going to the cinema is a great treat as it presents a unique experience to viewers, the advent of digital cinema projection systems and changing technology makes the experience more fun. Cinema is also an important social activity as it avails to viewers the opportunity to make new friends, catch up with their friends and relax with their partners. Silverbird have continued to provide Nigerians and expatriates with daily releases of blockbuster movies in an environment, ambiance and service quality available in developed markets.
Project Brief
Analyse the current website, create a UX case study for the project and redesign a prototype of the website inline with findings.
Research Questions:
The intended users of the website are the young and affluent with age range from 14–45. I conducted interview with 5 users used the following questions for my research;

- What makes you go to the cinema?
- Who do you usually go to see movies with?
- How do you choose a movie to view?

- Do you understand the aim of this website?
- What are the factors that makes it easy and convenient for you?
- What do you find confusing and difficult about this website?
- Personally, what are the factors that restricted you from using the website?
- What features will you like to be added to this website?
- What do you think we can add to this website to make you visit more often?

User Personas
I came up with three personas for this project.
Customer Journey Map using Christiana
Storyboards
After analyzing the user user persona’s, I came up with a scenario on a storyboard to illustrate how a user interacts with the application.
Designing Prototype
Header Navigation Links
I designed the landing page in such a way that users can easily navigate to any information directly from the header immediately they visit the website.
Now Showing Page
Users can easily view movie title, showing time, film classification, ratings of movies by just hovering on the movie. This will save users time when compared to the previous procedure of clicking a movie before viewing necessary details. There are also links to watch trailer and buy ticket when users hover on the movie poster.
News and Event Page
This page will show information about latest trends and events in the movie industry. Users can subscribe to newsletter update, share a post, comment and like a post from this page.
Booking a movie
The booking process is just a two step process once users have decided on a movie to view.
User Testing
After the prototype was completed, i conducted a series of usability tests on the prototype with eight users and discovered that:
- The website was easy to use and navigate as first time users where able to find what they were looking for easily on the website
- They love the UI design
- They really like the feature of hovering on a movie to get more details feature of the movies list as it saves them time.
