My Favorite Movies

Goodfellas

#1- Goodfellas- I don’t know that there is a more iconic scene in film than the “Layla” scene late in the movie. The movie is gripping, even if the ending is a little unsatisfying for me. What can I say, the mob is interesting.

Pulp Fiction

#2- Pulp Fiction- Tarantino is the man, and this movie absolutely took me two times to figure out. The diner scene is right up there with “Layla.”

Braveheart

#3- Braveheart- When I was in high school, i’d watch this movie the night before sporting events. William Wallace had me ready to fight to the death.

Ghostbusters

#4- Ghostbusters- I will probably go see the remake, but the original only gets funnier as I age, and realize what they were talking about sometimes. The whole movie was ridiculous, and really funny.

Scarface

#5- Scarface- The world is mine. After you see that movie, you just never see being a bad guy as that bad again.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

#6- Ace Ventura: Pet Detective- Einhorn… is a man. The laces were out, dude.

Independence Day

#7- Independence Day- Not going to lie, the special effects and explosions had me right away.

The Exorcist

#8- The Exorcist- I’m sorry, this movie was terrifying for months.

American Gangster

#9- American Gangster- Frank is a certified bad-ass.

Return of the Jedi

#10- Return of the Jedi- Luke Skywalker is the ultimate good guy. Dude is easy to root for.

Forrest Gump

#11- Forrest Gump- Life is like a box of chocolates…

Beavis and Butthead Do America

#12- Beavis and Butthead Do America- I am the great Cornholio…

ET

#13- ET- When I was a little kid, this movie just amazed me.

Aladdin

#14- Aladdin- Abu is possibly the greatest animated character ever. Also, Prince Ali is a boss.

Rocky 4

#15- Rocky 4- Because what’s a little hyper-nationalism going to hurt?

The Lion King

#16- The Lion King- Simba kind of follows all of our desired life path. Grow up unhappy in our community, run off and not care about anything with our friends, come back and have some great wife waiting for us to start a family.

City of God

#17- City of God- I realize it’s not in English, but if you haven’t seen City of God, please do so.

The Matrix

#18- The Matrix- While the second and third leave a lot to be desired, the original was great.

Oceans 11

#19- Oceans 11- George Clooney, ftw.

The Dark Knight

#20- The Dark Knight- I could pick any Batman, but Heath Ledger’s Joker is amazing.

Shawshank Redemption

#21- Shawshank Redemption- Amazing is the only word I have for this.

The Great Outdoors

#22- The Great Outdoors- They shot the bear in the ass, twice.

Hurt Locker

#23- Hurt Locker- It’s tough to watch, but you should watch it.

Godzilla vs. Mothra

#24- Godzilla vs. Mothra- In the original, Japanese version, this is an instant classic.

Avatar

#25- Avatar- I have to admit, I wish I had seen this sober first. What a thrilling movie.
