I serve on my state’s board of education and have been the only one to question the trend toward awarding college credit for high school work. In Michigan we have had some schools performing two years above the state average, and those students go to the more competitive universities. Is it really in their interest to take introductory sociology at a community college-equivalent rather than at, say, Dartmouth? The illusion is that all colleges and all college credits are equal. They are not.
