Are You a Doubting Thomas?

The phrase “Doubting Thomas” originated from John, chapter 20.

Eight days later His disciples were again inside, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be to you.” Then He said to Thomas, “Place your finger here, and see My hands; and take your hand and put it into My side; and do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer.” Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you now believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed,” (John 20:26–29 NASB).

Thomas was skeptical and applied conditions before he would believe. Therefore, he asked to visually inspect the hands of Jesus for proof of the resurrection.

The apostle valued his reason above the power of God. Here is the same person who experienced the miracles, the teaching, and His predictions of resurrection by Jesus many different times. Yet, the highest authority in Thomas’ mind was logic and rationality.

Apologetics are reasoned arguments or writings in justification of something. In this case, the explanation of the deity of Christ. There are intellectuals in the world today that could spend hour upon hour giving evidence of…
