The sinner is only accepted by God because of His grace. Jesus Christ lived the law on your behalf. It’s all about what Christ has done and is doing. Favor with God cannot be earned.

Peter accepted this message, but denied it by his actions. Paul confronts him to his face because the truth of the gospel was at stake.

“But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?” (Galatians 2:14 NASB).

Confrontation like this is something the modern church tries to avoid at all costs. However, it’s exactly what Paul chose to do. He challenged Peter in front of everybody.

Peter was clearly in the wrong and there was no attempt to hide the problem. Paul’s rebuke was public because Peter chose to make his display a public scandal.

Paul’s concern was for the other believers in the church. Don’t be lured away from the truth of the gospel. If Peter could be lured away, then it is certainly happening within the church today.

Study the word so that you know truth and confront falsehoods. Paul will not be ashamed when he stands before God for what he did.
