Not everything called the gospel is the gospel message. The standard of truth is not the messenger or way the sermon is delivered. The standard is what the Bible says.

But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, even now I say again: if anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!” (Galatians 1:8–9 NASB).

Sometimes the messenger is pleasant, well-mannered, caring, sincere, and thoughtful. They might have credentials from the best seminaries and colleges. Often, they are pleasing to listen to.

However, preaching error changes a church for the worse. This is picture Paul gives us of the church in Galatia.

Paul says, even if it’s himself or an angel committing this heresy…they are cursed. Christians have a duty, no matter the speaker, to cut themselves off from false message.

So, if your pastor preaches another message, then he has turned from God. It is your part to judge the message based on what it says. It’s the message that makes the preacher valid. Seek God’s approval rather than man’s.

The Galatians turned from the only Person who could save them by turning from the only message that could save them. To reject the true gospel message is to reject the Savior.
