Once, Peter was unprepared when asked if he knew Jesus. Because of this, he sternly warns not to be caught off guard. He desires us to have a good conscience.

The heart of the righteous Christian studies the Bible for answers, ready to defend the reason for belief. The Holy Spirit uses this spoken truth to convince others.

“and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who disparage your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame. For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong,” (1 Peter 3:16–17 NASB).

All of us have standards based off our conscience. This is how we discern truth from false. Is what’s being told me good or bad?

At conversion, God awakens your conscience so that you know the word of God is true. Likewise, God steers us daily. Obedience to Scripture depends on your conscience.

Peter says the world looks at you and calls you evil. This causes you suffering under good conscience for doing right. Irregardless, Peter puts supreme importance on never defiling your conscience.

Since we are a blessed people and because of the hope that is in us…we have a good conscience. Causing shame to the very people who accuse us. We are required to walk this way. Are we listening?
