14 Things I’ve Learned
Thoughts on Entrepreneurship
- You’re the average of the people you spend your time with. If your social network needs an upgrade, don’t be afraid to make some tough changes. Choose your friends wisely.
2. Surround yourself with people who talk about ideas. If your friends love to gossip about other people’s lives and problems, instead of how to realize their own dreams, it’s time to move on.
3. Value your time. Time is the most valuable resource we have that no amount of money can buy back; successful entrepreneurs understand this. What are you giving up to sell yours?
4. Negotiate. I’ve found that most things in life are negotiable. You’d be amazed at what you can achieve by simply asking for what you want. Practice often.
5. It’s ok to say No. Successful people understand that not only is saying no ok, it is often necessary. If it doesn’t make you money or make you happy, say no.
6. Fear is a friend who’s misunderstood. Fear keeps us alive, yet it also lets us know when we’re pushing our boundaries. I have found life to be most rewarding after putting myself into situations that make my stomach sick.
7. Always go with your gut. Trusting your intuition in life and business will always be a good call. Learn to trust yourself, the confidence that follows is priceless.
8. Share your best ideas. Never underestimate the value of being a good person.
9. Focus 100% on your strengths. Society says we should work on our weaknesses to become well rounded people. That just leads to being mediocre at everything. The truth is, you should go all-in on your true talents and work on them until you’re the best that you can be.
10. Market gaps = major profit. Have you found a product or service that is selling incredibly well in one market, but is not offered in another? Be the first-mover to fill the gap with that successful product or service and you will make a lot of money.
11. Think Big Picture. It’s funny how easily we can lose focus running day to day operations of a business. Always think big picture, and carry out every single decision with that greater vision in mind.
12. Legacy > Currency. Thanks, Gary.
13. This one simple fact: “Everything around you that you call life, was made up by people that were no smarter than you.” Steve Jobs
14. Start today. Simple concept, difficult in practice. It’s astounding how fast the days, weeks, and months go by. Stop putting off the things that you’ve always wanted to do. Go ahead, take that first step.
