My Design Circus, and yes, my Design Monkeys

#UserExperienceDesigner — a title that feels as inappropriate and ill-conceived as it is passé. IMHO.

Time for my yearly head scratching over the fact that we have Masters(+PhD maybe) in the soft-subject of UX Design being touted on the for profit “Education Market.” I wonder how much of the 100b (2012) federal loan programs are going in this direction?

Here’s to another year of cross-functional, miss-communicated, online-magazine hyped, student-chasing, higher education program selling, luminary-praising, misdirected design-award giving, professional-association member-retaining, poorly informed business owner, confused-recruiter, behind the curve HR department, frustrated hiring manager, and non-user-centered design industry status quo. #fascinating

Some other terms and titles to be leery of #InformationArchitecture, #InteractionDesign, #CustomerExperience Design, #HealthCare Experience Design, Bicycle Riding Experience Design, and Dark Data Consumption Design — ok, I made one of those up. :)

But. I do LOVE Design. I’m going to keep loving it as one would a wayward sibling, not trying to force it to change, but happily nudging it toward self-actualization and enlightenment.

I’ll continue to keep my head down and try to do the best work I possibly can.
